EST announces its 2011 awards

Special grants have been awarded for the organization of events and the purchase of learning materials

The European Society for Translation Studies has awarded its 2011 grants to the Fachhochschule Köln, University American College Skopje, and the Siberian Federal University.

The Fachhochschule Köln (in Cologne, Germany), represented by John Stanley, was awarded 1000 euros for the organization of the conference Hermeneutics and Translation Studies, to be held in May 2011. The chair of the selection committee, Magdalena Bartlomiejczyk, reports that there were four strong applicants, and the winner was decided by a narrow vote.

The EST Book Purchase grant was split between the University American College Skopje and the Siberian Federal University, with the amount of the grants being increased in order to cover the double award.

The School of Foreign Languages in Skopje, Macedonia, represented by Marija Todorova, was awarded 691.40 euros for the purchase of books in the field of Translation and Interpreting Studies. The Institute of Philology and Language Communication at the Siberian Federal University, represented by Valentina V. Kononova, was awarded 767.40 euros for similar purchases (see here for photos of happy academics with books). The chair of the Book Purchase Grant Committee, Ágnes Somló, reports that a total of six strong applications were received.

Under the terms of this award, all book purchases made from John Benjamins benefit from a discount of 40%.
