Update on Congress 2028: Diversity and Unity in Translation and Interpreting Studies

The 12th EST Congress will take place at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, between 27th and 30th June 2028, jointly hosted by the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of Polish Studies. The Congress theme is Diversity and Unity in Translation and Interpreting Studies – signalling the range and multidirectionality of present-day translation and interpreting research, but also inviting reflection on whether this immense growth and development of our discipline leaves room for a shared identity. Given that the first EST Congress was held in Prague (in 1995), this ‘homecoming’ to Central/Eastern Europe appears as a good occasion not only to showcase current research, but also, on the meta-level, to take stock of where we are as a discipline and a community.

Established in 1364, Jagiellonian University is the oldest higher education institution in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe, part of Kraków’s centuries-long tradition as a vital centre of intellectual and cultural life. With its historical charm and many attractions, the city is a perfect conference destination, and the university itself offers all the necessary infrastructure; the organising committee are looking forward to proving this point in June 2028.
