Rosana Esquinas López, a member of EST since last year, was delighted to accept the EST summer school scholarship, which covers the expenses incurred during her participation in the Summer School on Cognitive Translation Studies, hosted by the MC2 Lab at the University of Bologna. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Translation Studies at the University of Murcia (Murcia, Spain). At the same time, she works as a freelance translator from English and German into Spanish and as teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language.
Her research project, entitled From text to sound: translating audiobooks and emotions is being supervised by Dr. Ana María Rojo López and Dr. Purificación Meseguer Cutillas. The main goals of her project are to determine whether translations created to be heard have more emotional impact than those only envisioned (silent, visual) reading both on translators and consumers of target text. To do so, she is working with self-reported questionnaires regarding emotions and narrative engagement and physiological responses such as a skin conductance and heart rate.
