During the EST Congress in Oslo in 2022 we awarded the first EST Open Access Prizes in order to support open access publication of two outstanding journal articles. Based on very positive feedback we have decided to continue with the Prize. In translation studies, as in other academic fields, free access to publications is becoming more and more important. Some journals are already freely available, but many are not. This EST prize is being awarded in collaboration with two publishing houses: one free-access article is offered for a Routledge periodical, another one for a Benjamins journal. The prizes will be awarded at the EST Congress in Leeds in June-July 2025.
The Open Access Prize Committee has decided on the following submission procedure and assessment criteria for this award.
Participating journals
Benjamins:
Babel, Digital Translation, FORUM, Interpreting, Target, Translation Cognition & Behavior, Translation in Society, Translation & Interpreting Studies, Translation Spaces, Translation & Translanguaging in Multilingual Contexts.
Routledge:
Asia Pacific TIS, The Interpreter & Translator Trainer, Perspectives, Translation Studies, The Translator.
Eligibility and documentation
– At the moment of submission, you are a paid-up EST member for 2025.
– The online-first version of your article was published in one of the participating journals in 2022, 2023 or 2024
– Only one submission per (co-)author is allowed. In the case of multi-authored articles, it is the corresponding author who submits the article. S/he must also inform all co-authors before the submission.
– Together with the article, the corresponding author submits a supporting statement of no more than 500 words signed by the author and all co-authors, explaining why they think the article deserves the Open Access Prize.
Assessment criteria
The committee will assess all submissions primarily from the perspective of the excellence of the scholarly contribution (originality, significance, theoretical and methodological rigor). As an auxiliary criterion, the potential impact on the career of the applicant may be taken into account. Applicants should consider these criteria when writing their supporting statement.
